The website of award winning Magnum photographer Larry Towell was all about making an untraditional online home to fit Larry’s colorful personality and his amazing black & white photos
Larry’s universe is so diverse that the website couldn’t just state “Larry Towell – Photographer”. That’s why Larry wanted it to say “Larry Towell’s General Store”. Both to explain himself as an artist that does not stick to photography, but expresses his observations through music, poetry and film making. Also the title suggests a sense of humbleness that is seldom among photographers of his caliber.
This all pointed towards a website that didn’t just duplicate the usual photography website cliche of black backgrounds and minimalistic typography, but rather a website that tried to capture some of Larry’s personality and would become an online home for him and his amazing creations.
Larry Towell’s business card reads ‘Human Being’. Experience as a poet and a folk musician has done much to shape his personal style.
